In recent years we have become accustomed to the concept of four cultural and historic provinces of Latvia - Kurzeme, Latgale,Vidzeme and Zemgale. Only occasionally, as if in remembering the era of the Duchy of Kurzeme and the Kurzeme, are the regions of Kurzeme and Zemgale combined under the common name of Kurzeme.
