           8. "Muse" Union House

After the formation of the earthen ramparts and bastion system and the gradual filling-up of the Lake Riga at the end of the 18th century, such monumental municipal buildings as the former "Muse" Union House (Riharda Vāgnera iela 4) occurred in this area. In 1782 the first permanent theatre in Riga started functioning there. From 1837 to 1839 Rihard Vagner, the famous German composer, was working in “Muse” Union House, also Ferenc List (1842), Clara Wieck-Schumann (1844), Anton Rubinstein (1844) and Hectors Berlioz (1847) performing there.
