Near Melngalvju House, on Grēcinieku iela 18, an original living house of the end of the 17th
century is located. After careful restoration in the 1970s and 80s of the previous century, the building was given a name of its last owner: Mencendorf’s House. A small museum is also there, as well as Domus Rigensis, a Latvian – Baltic German Centre. Impressive windows with small squares dominate the exterior of the building, but the interior ornamental decoration is enriched by an artistic ceiling and wall paintings of high quality from the 17th and18th centuries depicting ornamental compositions and allegoric stories. Some of these paintings originated through the influence of Antoine Watteau (1684 - 1712), a French painter.
