          33. Buildings of Alberta iela

Bright impressions are guaranteed to admirers of art nouveau after viewing the housing buildings of Alberta, Elizabetes and Strēlnieku ielas. the buildings on Alberta iela 2, 2a, 4, 6, 8 and 12, built in the beginning of the 20th century, are distinguished as architectural masterpieces. It seems that the creative imagination of a civil engineer Mihail Eisenstein (1867 - 1921), an author of these designs, didn't know any limitations. Extravagantly splendid facades of the monumental building are swamped by geometrical and natural forms and motives. Eisenstein has even formed a separate decorative floor with empty window openings for the house on Alberta iela 2. Each of the mentioned buildings, for all that florid decoration with seemingly incongruous decorative elements, still leave a consistently harmonic, rounded artistic ensemble.
The painter Jānis Rozentāls lived from 1904 to 1914 and the writer Rūdolfs Blaumanis rented one room (1906 - 1908) in a building, built in 1904 by an architect Konstantīns Pēkšēns, on Alberta iela 12. At present there is a memorial museum of Janis Rozentāls and Rūdolfs Blaumanis in apartment 9 of this building.
