The Vecpils Hill Fortress is located on the high bank of the old Vecpils River course, 40 km from Liepāja. In ancient times it was the site of one of the largest and strongest Kuršu castles. There are old graves and worship sites near the hill fortress.
The Vecpils Catholic Church (1700) is an important architectural monument. The initials on the tower façade testify that the church’s construction was financed by Major General Otto Ernest von Rape. The church objects (the altar, pulpit, the base of the baptizing bowl, organ loft etc.) decorated with wood carvings which were created simultaneously with the church are unique Baroque art works produced by masters of the unusual Stelmuže school of wood workers.
