Ambeļi Catholic Church (about 35 km north of Daugavpils) was built in the second half of the 18th century with funds donated by the owner of Ambeļmuiža Manor, Count Stanislav Plater - Ziberg. It is noteworthy for its layout, which is atypical for churches in Latgale. This rectangular structure, whose eastern side is  terminated by a polygon apse, is formed through the merging of the presbytery with the congregation space. The artistic finishing of the altar as well as several paintings have survived from the time of the church’s construction.
